Affiliate marketing is a web-based marketing practice in which a business/company rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate's marketing efforts. Or more specifically gave them commission for the sales of the company through the affiliate's advertising aids. Affiliate marketing can also be the name of the industry where a number of different types of companies and individuals perform this online marketing.An Advertiser, also known as a merchant, is a company that sells products or services that utilizes an affiliate program to help them sell their products or services. As an affiliate, you’ll partner with these advertisers and help them sell their products online. These merchants pay affiliates for every transaction/sale. An Affiliate or site owner/publisher places special tracking links and/or other promotional material on their web site to promote a merchant’s (advertiser’s) products or services. For the affiliate’s effort, the affiliate makes a commission for all the valid transactions/sales referred to the merchant by using their affiliate link. An affiliate link is a special link that an advertiser gives to their affiliates. These special links are unique to each affiliate and allow for the advertiser to properly track visits and sales from the affiliate’s visitors. An affiliate network is a large site that brings together online merchants (advertisers) and affiliates (publishers). Affiliate networks usually offer a directory of affiliate programs, join links, promotional material for each affiliate program, and a consolidated payment system for affiliates from all the participating advertisers. Affiliate's are commonly website owner's, and advertisers allow their affiliate's to promote their products or services in these website's through a special tracking link(affiliate link), this is known as the Affiliate Program, and everytime someone clicks on these links and a valid transaction takes place, the affiliate gets a commission from the sale.
